We’re often thinking that to see things more clearly we need to look closer, lean forward, maybe take a magnifying glass, or binoculars. That’s what the instinct tells us.

But the truth is most of the time, to see things clearly, you need to take a step back. Or two steps back. Zoom out. You will be able to see the full picture, and grasp the context of it much clearer.

We tend to focus on the little details, obsess over them, trying to make them perfect, but in the grand scheme of things they need to be put in the proper perspective. It’s the big picture that matters.

That’s what the last 6 months of sabbatical leave have been about for me – taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture of my life.

But you don’t need to take a long sabbatical to do this – just every now and again use your zoom out lens to look at where you are overall.

Also, I’m mind blown how fast the time flies! Where did the last 6 months disappear?
